Silenced Love
For many years I didn't know the existence of my twin sister Gina, I’ve always sensed something was missing from my life.
Gina always knew about me, which made life difficult not being up with me .
Growing up in Canada and my sister in Romania, Gina wanted to keep the connection through writing letters to one another.
My mother agreed with one condition, Gina would have to pretend she is my cousin.
That explains why I've never seen… her photos growing up until I found out at 35 about my adoption.
For many years my sister was silenced and I was kept in dark.
The red female figure symbolizes my mother her placing her hand over my sister's mouth to be silent and my eyes to not see the truth. The crying woman on the left is my birth mother crying regretting to separating twins and her strong faith in god has helped her deal with the pain. The figures in the background are families and friends in Romania who always knew the family secret except me.

« I was 35 years old before discovering I had a twin sister living half a world away. I paint to share our story of longing, reconnection, and compensating for lost time. »
ASIZA is a Romanian painter based in Canada whose works have been exhibited nationally. Her paintings are inspired by her intensely personal and heart-breaking experience of being separated from her twin sister for forty-seven years. Since their meeting and reunion in 2014, ASIZA describes her artistic expression as has having evolved, featuring bolder layers of color and texture. Her bold compositions are created using acrylics on canvas or paper.
