About this artwork
Unlike many of the other works in this series which depict a more naturalistic representation of wildlife, this painting is inspired from European tapestries rather than photos and early 1990's computer graphics. The technique of applying, interlacing and weaving dry paint membrane strips developed by Aston has a resemblance to the weave of a tapestry and the pixelated rendering of early computer images.

Aston Philip, an award-winning Australian painter who resides in the United States, examines the concept of interconnectivity in his works. He believes that the practice of making art that champions joy is revolutionary in the face of the 'epidemic manipulation of opinion through fear and isolation'. Philip's artistic process sees thickly brushed or poured paint peeled from its applied surface 'as a membrane' and then cut into shapes or strips that are interlaced, forming highly textured compositions.
