About this artwork
On the surface, the meeting of the leathers is defined by a supple and organic line.
On the back, the assembly is revealed differently: the skins are entirely laced, held together by a network of crossed tensions, deliberately relegated out of view.
The cuts follow the contour as it emerged, revealing the edge and the reality of the material. Between these two layers, the tension does not disappear. It sustains the whole in a fragile balance,… where the constraint remains perceptible, even when it is not visible.

Aurélie Pellat develops a practice at the crossroads of design, plastic research and saddlery-leather goods.
Using discarded materials—fragments of leather, textiles, paper, or wood—she creates collages and wall sculptures that question our relationship to the value of materials. Abandoned after fulfilling their function, these fragments become the starting point for a new artistic expression.
Without erasing their history, she preserves their forms, cuts, perforations, and traces of use. Through assembly, sewing, and tension, she reveals the sensory potential of these vestiges and invites us to take a fresh look at what has been set aside.
Nourished by geometric abstraction, minimalism and Arte Povera, her practice explores how a material, once discarded, continues to carry a memory and a presence.
Originally from the French Riviera, she lives and works in Paris.
