About this artwork
Often when we think of flowers, they are flowers for picking, long-stemmed, wild in the meadows or as a gift, so we buy them from the florist. A bouquet of flowers. But I prefer them in my garden, on foot, so they inspire me. The hollyhock (Alcea rosea), formerly called Althaea, is a hardy perennial very common in the countryside as well as by the sea where it grows against the walls of houses. I love them so much that there are some in my house,…
planted. So I was able to paint their portrait. The title obviously makes a nod to the 'Four Roses' whiskey.
