About this artwork
The title of this work refers to a state of mind or state of being, but is also the name of three parallel dikes along a river. These dikes, of different heights, each have their own function in the battle against rising water. The rivers determine a large part of the landscape in the Netherlands and thus also of our identity, history and certainly also future. These concepts are not separate from climate issues, a changing consensus about our history…

Barbara Polderman is a prize-winning artist based in the Netherlands whose works have been extensively exhibited on a national level, as well as in the United Kingdom, Poland, and France. The sculptor and textile artist's compositions are explorations of the imagination and an interpretation of memories. Polderman has a preference for both old and new materials, which she compliments with new fabrics that are printed with photographs or collages. She believes that textiles can be a "carrier of life".
