The design of this bishopric hat has been thoroughly researched by myself, as I reached back to the 6th century of Welsh life in Pembrokeshire achieving a well founded representation of what St.David would have worn. This miter sits proudly on a statue of the saint that I sculpted and exhibited at my solo exhibition in St.Davids Cathedral, West Wales, and Chester Cathedral, North West England. The original miter was crisply carved in limewood which… was moulded in silicone rubber with a fibreglass jacket and cast in bronze.
I decided to create this miter as a sculpture in its own right with the option of being mounted on a black granite base or as in the images to sit on its own.
« My concept is to tap into the sculptural beauty inherent in natural history. »
Barry Davies is a passionate British sculptor who has exhibited his work across Europe and the UK. He seeks to humbly represent the anatomy of natural history in all its forms, aiming to convey excellence through his elegant bronze sculptures. Modelled in clay and carved in plaster before being cast in bronze, his subject matter derives from studies of Palaeontology, Anthropology and human and animal anatomy.
