About this artwork
I live in Cape Town near to a Polo Club and I often drive past. I decided to stop by from time to time and watch practice and training sessions.
While having done some riding myself I appreciate the skill it takes for a rider to negotiate such fast maneuvers that the horse is capable of . I find horses a most graceful and beautiful animal.
The horses seem to understand the game and enjoy the participation.
I asked permission from the riders… to take some detailed photos of the horses saddle and tack for my reference. I also managed to get some good action photos and came up with this pose .

Barry Jackson is an experienced artist from South Africa whose bronze sculptures have been exhibited nationally and are held in public collections. He began drawing as a kid and after winning an art competition at the young age of 13 on Zambia TV, Jackson decided to devote his life to art. Portraiture and wildlife are the main themes in his sculptures, and he is often commissioned to create life size public works of famous figures such as Mahatma Gandhi and Louis Van Mauritius.
