Clowns are related to the circus, childish entertainment and performance. In this piece, the roles are reversed and in a play on the words "clowning around", it is a fascist character with a face covered in roses who mounts a grotesque war circus.

Barry Wolfryd is a painter, printmaker and sculptor who resides in Mexico. His works have been exhibited nationally as well as in Italy, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Japan and Ecuador. His compositions blend the surreal and include elements of pop art and expressionism, featuring imagery from popular culture as a vehicle for critique. Wolfryd’s objective is to convey an ‘absurd narrative’. When painting he uses oil, paper and mixed media, while his sculptures are fabricated with ceramics, glass, art objects and graphics.
