About this artwork
In this hybrid composition, Daimyo summons both the legacy of ancestral power and contemporary vanity. Almost totemic forms emerge from a vortex of material, where the paint seems to sometimes sculpt, sometimes mask. The word "OSTENTATOIRE," at the center, acts as a threshold or a mask, blurring the line between authority and appearance.
The raw texture of the linen, the organic thicknesses, the sharp gestures and the play of chromatic balance evoke… a ritual tension, between affirmation and dissimulation.

Benjamin Debayle, a native of Saint-Étienne, is a contemporary visual artist who works in a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, and installation. Drawing on his background in visual arts and multimedia graphics, his current practice explores abstraction and conceptualization, influenced by primary art, naive art, and abstract expressionism.
