About this artwork
This photo project involves photographs of mountain peaks that, rotated 90 degrees, resemble profiles of human faces.
The term “pareidolia” describes the ability to recognize a face, human figure, or animal in abstract shapes such as clouds or mountains.
The Rotofen towers in the Lattengebirge not far from Berchtesgaden rise from the forest and form a stark contrast to the otherwise rather lovely landscape of the Lattengebirge. The three rotoven… towers form a silhouette reminiscent of a woman lying on her back. This is how the red oven got its nickname, the Sleeping Witch.
The pictures were published as part of a series in Zeit Magazine 18/2021.
