This is the portrait of a happy guy! Not always do I choose this expression, here I had to think about another famous Dutch painter of the Baroque: Frans Hals. The portrait is in a private collection in Oslo.

« What makes my paintings typically mine is for others to decide. I just try to make beautiful paintings, whatever that may stand for... »
Bert Van Zelm is a talented Dutch artist who has participated in exhibitions and residencies in Italy, the Netherlands, US and UK. Interested in studying the idea of how paintings lack space and time, he concentrates on pushing colour and clarity to the limit, creating mystery and satisfying his own fixation for shining elements. Van Zelm seeks foremost to surprise himself with what he makes; to surprise others - in his own words - would merely make him a clown.
