About this artwork
In May, I wandered through my large natural garden, admiring the variety of plant forms. Some were just beginning to bud, while others had already faded. I gathered a bouquet of interesting pieces and brought them into my studio, arranging them on square canvases that had been primed with a neon-coloured base. From there, I began applying layers of paint, adding a blind contour drawing to capture their essence. The painting reflects the vibrant energy… of May, blending the fresh vitality of new growth with the fading beauty of what had already bloomed.
Bettina Zedlitz, a seasoned artist, crafts striking narratives through an intriguing fusion of acrylics and unique elements like coffee, charcoal, and sand. Her vivacious, large-scale works reveal a multi-layered and intuitive approach, where each detail adds depth and luminosity. As she grapples with life's tensions, Zedlitz's art captures an array of moods, from a frosty winter morning's tranquillity to the relief after a summer storm.
