About this artwork
It is a cold, dark winter day. The clouds hang low, and the sun is nowhere to be seen. As I walk through the forest, it starts to snow in large, white flakes. Quickly, the snowfall intensifies, turning into a full-blown snowstorm. The first layer begins to settle on the ground and on the branches of the trees. The flakes swirl around, blurring all contours. Only the dark, moss-covered trunks can still be made out—a bit brown, a bit green, a bit grey.… I hear the snow gently falling onto the branches and the dry leaves on the ground. Otherwise, it's completely silent, as if the snow has swallowed all sound. In front of me, I see a young beech tree that hasn't shed its leaves. Their light, yellow-brown colour stands out against the snowstorm, demanding to be noticed.
Bettina Zedlitz, a seasoned artist, crafts striking narratives through an intriguing fusion of acrylics and unique elements like coffee, charcoal, and sand. Her vivacious, large-scale works reveal a multi-layered and intuitive approach, where each detail adds depth and luminosity. As she grapples with life's tensions, Zedlitz's art captures an array of moods, from a frosty winter morning's tranquillity to the relief after a summer storm.
