In this work, I have captured the raw structures—soaked in concrete and sand—to symbolize the power and transience of our built environment. The abstract forms invite us to experience the balance between chaos and order. This painting brings a palpable energy of stability and fragility to any space in which it hangs. It speaks of both transience and permanence.

Birgit Kunkel-Weis is a self-taught painter who has been working with acrylic paints, sand, pebbles, wood, ash, metal, and fabric on canvas, 3D stretcher frames, and metal panels since 2004. She creates striking abstract works in which she builds three-dimensional depth and powerful structures through layering, overlapping, and folding; her reduced colors and expansive forms are reminiscent of urban and natural surfaces. Her art conveys a profound sense of connection, interpenetration, and imagination, inviting the viewer to experience the interplay and dynamics of life.
