About this artwork
My first exposure to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was when a group of adults were talking about how absurd it was. I don't know how TMNT was conceived but hearing adults talk about it like that when I was maybe 10 or 12 years old made me think it was a media product that I was probably too smart for (I identified as a smart kid...mostly.)
Now, as I coast into mid-life, the Turtles have popped up in a strange place: my podcast feed. I was listening… to an episode where the turtles were being discussed while working on the initial layers of this painting, which include text (which is buried) that reads "heroes in the half shell" and a big sort of graphical design with "TP" and "turtle power" written in smaller (but still 3 inch high) letters underneath. You can still make out most of the the word "power" in the lower right of the final composition.

Blake Brasher
United States
« My work is an attempt to suggest possible ways of being. It is a self conscious offering of answers while knowing that answers do not exist. »
Established American artistic Blake Brasher favors a messy, colorful and abstruct style of painting to offer his viewers alternative explanations into possible ways of being. Not satified with conventional explanations of why things are how they are, Blake's vibrant and sometimes brashy works provide a place for meditative thought, or, ideally, no thought at all.
Blake has honed his artistic talents through a number of residencies both in his native America and Europe. His works have featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States.
