About this artwork
I was inspired by an image from an old film that uses the superimposition of two images: two indistinct, blurry figures appear and seem to be looking at each other. After painting this scene with gouache on glass, I re-wet the gouache and then press a sheet of damp paper onto it to make a print. The pigments settle onto the paper, making the colors vibrate. The white of the paper makes the colors vibrate. The water in certain areas dilutes the paint.… Thanks to this monotype technique, a certain element of chance comes into play, and the forms seem to disappear or appear. This engages the viewer's imagination.
Blandine Lemoine, a master of drawing, painting, and digital arts, has a strong inclination toward iconography. Her style, greatly influenced by photomontage and the assembly of heterogeneous images, is a clever blend of techniques such as transfer and monotype, creating a play of surrealist figures and elusive proportions. Through her dreamlike work, Blandine envelops the viewer in varied emotions, guiding them in an abstract dance between the appearance and disappearance of images, inviting them on an introspective journey to the heart of her imagination.
