About this artwork
The motifs that occupy Branka the most are buildings. But no less interesting to her are the landscapes and colors of olive groves, dry stone walls, cypresses, the sea, its bays. The spirit of the Mediterranean is associated with the color of the sea, which varies from blue to turquoise depending on the time of day or type of wind, and with the green color of oleanders, pines, cypresses and olives, which symbolize persistence despite the strong gusts…
of wind. Her paintings strive to portray the silence and peace of a small village, but also the magic of the Mediterranean and of the midday sun creating a 'Mediterranean diary' of everyday life on the island Zverinac.

« Representing architectural objects in my art gives me an insight into the study of human experience, time and space, providing a basis for ideas of the space we live in. »
Branka Ridicki is an experienced Croatian painter with international exposure. Questioning the concept of space and time, her work is influenced by journeys, the natural world, literature and architecture. This focus is inspired by the cultural framework she grew up in, within the historical urban architecture of her native town Zadar, as well as in the context of multicultural experiences throughout her constant relocations to New York, Cairo, Colombo and Delhi. Ridicki brings the Mediterranean sea and sky to life with bold colors and smart spacing.
