About this artwork
The picture shows a fascinating composition of different materials. In the foreground there is a piece of driftwood made of olive wood, the fine grain and natural structures of which are clearly visible. Below, the sea is depicted in several layers of resin (epoxy resin). The soft, flowing texture of the resin conveys a feeling of depth and clarity that is reminiscent of the calm water on a beach. In the upper part of the picture, a layer of encaustic… wax is applied, showing an atmospheric sky. The colors of the sky convey the calm and vastness of a sunset by the sea. The atmosphere is filled with a feeling of vastness and infinity that pushes all everyday worries into the background. This picture takes you to a world where time plays no role and invites you to unwind!
Brigitte Schmitz-Kirschbaum began painting in oils 25 years ago, learning from various art teachers. After initially painting representationally, she later switched to abstract painting and, among other things, refined her palette knife techniques. When her interest in mixed media arose, she acquired knowledge of techniques and materials in various seminars, workshops, and master classes in the USA, Canada, Germany, and Switzerland. Brigitte Schmitz-Kirschbaum draws her inspiration from nature, which continually fascinates her with its variety of colors, shapes, and patterns.
