About this artwork
The "Catching Memories" triptych is an abstract composition divided into three panels. It combines dynamic textures, colors and symbols to convey a deeper emotional or symbolic meaning. Dominant hues are pale green, white and black, complemented by accents of red and gold. The painting features a highly textured surface achieved through various techniques such as scratching, spraying and the addition of relief-like elements. There are amorphous,… net-like black shapes reminiscent of the brain's neural network where memories are stored. The white band stretching across the three panels is meant to symbolize time or memory, which is fleeting and often difficult to grasp. The contrast between the clear accents and the hazy white areas could indicate the interplay of clear and fading memories.
Brigitte Schmitz-Kirschbaum began painting in oils 25 years ago, learning from various art teachers. After initially painting representationally, she later switched to abstract painting and, among other things, refined her palette knife techniques. When her interest in mixed media arose, she acquired knowledge of techniques and materials in various seminars, workshops, and master classes in the USA, Canada, Germany, and Switzerland. Brigitte Schmitz-Kirschbaum draws her inspiration from nature, which continually fascinates her with its variety of colors, shapes, and patterns.
