I’m not going to spew a bunch of art-speak diarrhea and try and distract attention away from the total superficiality of this artwork. This gridded nine-part confection is only intend-ed to be the type of eye candy that induces dirty thoughts and makes you horny. Aside from evoking the seriality of everyone from Claude Monet to Bernd and Hilla Becker to, I suppose, Andy Warhol – let’s be clear, there is absolutely no depth to be found in “Work 929:…
Trying to Hide”. I suppose you could strain yourself in the effort to find some continuum between ancient Greek and Roman sculpture, gay porn, toxic masculinity, and present-day male (steroid-induced) narcissism . . . or not. In the words of poet Judd Mortimer Lewis “If you know of a skeleton hidden away in a closet and guarded and kept from the day in the dark; and whose showing, whose sudden display would cause grief and sorrow and lifelong dismay, it’s a pretty good plan to forget it.”
