About this artwork
Odin's Rune: The runic alphabet traditionally holds 24 letters, sometimes sets come with a blank stone called Odin's Rune that is meant to symbolize that which is not meant to be known yet. The Runes are the written letters that were used by the Norse and other Germanic peoples before the adoption of the Latin alphabet in the laster Middle Ages. Unlike the Latin alphabet, which is an essentially utilitarian script, the runes are symbols of some… of the most powerful forces in the cosmos. The materials used to create this work: Multiple Acrylic-base washes on top of raw, unprimed canvas. I then use Sennilier oil-pastel bars to add sporadic and spontaneous plashes of color. Finally I draw the shapes that appear before me using charcoal vines. The process is very stream of consciousness. My intention was to create a unique alphabet unlike any other, nspired by the Norse, my very own iconography of sorts. The painting was then sealed with five thin layers of spray Varnish.
« Art is the one true universal language that ties us all together. It transcends race, creed, color, or sexual orientation. Let’s be more like art! »
Bruce Rubenstein is an American artist whose works have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and around the world. He describes his art as a "manifestation of the subconscious". Rubenstein endeavors to create a specific iconography, topography, and language for each of his compositions. As maps to his inner world, his paintings are created in a "stream of consciousness" manner and invite the viewer to discover their own meaning.
