About this artwork
Mechanics and form: The sculpture is reminiscent of the mechanics of a spinning top. Three interlocking frame elements rotate around a common axis. This construction lends the solid wood a surprising, playful dynamism.
Materiality: The wood of the sycamore tree is used to particularly effective effect here. The striking, almost leopard-like grain of the sycamore stands out clearly on the smooth surfaces of the frames and lends the strict geometry… a lively, organic texture.
Symbolism: “Turn XI” symbolizes the change of perspective. Through the interlocking of the frames, ever new geometric overlaps and framings of the surrounding space are created.

CW Loth is a sculptor from Westphalia who completed his artistic training at the Ottersberg University of Applied Sciences and has been working with wood for decades. His technique involves transforming massive blocks of wood into complex, dynamic sculptures using a chainsaw, essentially folding the inside out – everything is created from a single piece. His constructivist-concrete style and precise carving create imaginary movements in space. Loth's sculptures convey a quiet tension and lead the viewer to a profound experience of space, potential, and inner movement.
