About this artwork
As usual, I went to Mimi van der Merwe that day, not particularly amused with myself that day. She suggested I just started scratching the paper with a pen. This was the result. The title suggests how the mind can quickly erode itself if it is not fed with inspiration and creativity.
With delicate pen strokes, I explored fragmented shapes and textures to reflect the complexity of thought and emotion. The vibrant red flower bursts through the monochrome… layers, symbolizing passion and resilience amid chaos. This piece invites you to feel the tension between fragility and strength, filling your space with dynamic energy and a contemplative mood.

Cameron de Bruyn applies his knowledge as a drawer and aspiring printmaker, honed under leading mentors. His style is expressively raw; he captures emotion over detailed realism and utilizes memory as a drawing tool, carving out a unique approach that circumvents internalized imagery. His art, resonating with an intense exploration into overcoming human ambition and fear, communicates a nurturing invitation to self-healing. Through observational depth and sincere introspection, he illuminates life's curious complexities.
