About this artwork
To those who have felt alone and lonely due to life's challenges,
who have felt out of place because of others' actions,
who are afraid to trust again after being hurt repeatedly,
and who struggle to feel worthy, loved, seen, and supported after facing rejection.
I spent my younger years struggling to build my confidence and self-esteem, to find beauty within myself, and to simply love myself. Unhealthy environments made my doubt my worth.
"You… Are Not Alone" is my personal creative support for those raised in abusive environments, who have been bullied, and who feel alone and less than they truly are inside.
May you find an artwork in these series that helps you feel connected with the community of survivors.
May these small unique paintings be a beacon of hope and a huge reminder that you belong. We are here, thinking of you, and standing by your side. We are united by our shared experiences.
Survivors are heroes!
With love, Carine
« I am highly motivated to live a life as authentic as possible and I am interested in what keeps us away from our own fire and intuition. »
Carine’s artwork is recognized for its abstract qualities, incorporating emotional movement, graffiti type marks and words that reveal her journey.
My work is deeply rooted in personal transformation, shaped by my journey as a survivor of domestic violence. My artwork is known for its abstract qualities, incorporating emotional movement, graffiti-style marks, and words to establish a ‘social ground’ within my paintings.
Through this process, I aim to question, challenge, and provoke established narratives and cultural hierarchies, particularly those surrounding equality and abuse; while inviting new perspectives and interpretations.
I have studied for almost 20 years at both the Academy of Art in Brugge & Mechelen, Belgium. I am classically trained and I master a wide range of painting and drawing techniques, from realistic work to expressive and experimental styles.
