About this artwork
The third in a series of 3, this woodblock print describes the perpetual motion and the arcs and spirals repeated in the patterns of rocks and shells and in the motion of the sand and sea. The artist hand-printed the image on hand-made mulberry paper.

« I am fascinated by the world around me. Color, light, movement, and patterns of movement. Subtle shifts and swells of color, ephemeral, and always changing. »
Carolee Jakes is an American artist who has exhibited her works nationally and in Greece. In the space that exists between representation and abstraction, she combines screen and woodblock printing, as well as painting techniques to further explore that visual continuum. The key elements in Jakes' compositions include movement, patterns, and shifting colors. She begins her painting process by oil washing, to "set up the color", adding more intense paints as she continues.
