Whether we’re gazing at a mountain range or across a mill pond, atmosphere defines the space between the observer and the water, soil, hills, rock. It shifts at every moment. Clouds recede and light flickers across the water. The air seems to thicken and a new shadow defines the edge of a mountainside. A variation of color marks the sky below and above the clouds. Caroline Adams is a painter and printmaker with a background from RISD and the Aegean Center for the Fine Arts, having worked internationally. She employs oil, egg tempera, and monotype, creating abstracted landscapes through layering techniques, ethereal washes, and varied mark making.
