About this artwork
Inspired by a trip to Yosemite in the fall. My abiding memory is one of immersion - being surrounded by the spectacular Autumn colours against a dark backdrop of granite cliffs. I returned to my studio in the UK with so many ideas and sketches but above all I wanted to make these paintings big enough for the viewer to feel that sense of immersion in colour and movement. I only had two smaller canvasses so I hung them together and painted across…
them both. First a layer of spray paint to keep the painting loose and then layers of paint, placed quickly onto the canvas with brush and palette knife. A reflection of shadows, sunlight, colour and the drama of my surroundings.
