In Boiling the Ocean, a businessman stands on a rocky outcrop, briefcase in hand, facing an expanse of open water. Dressed for a meeting, he appears ready to bring the sea under management. The title borrows a corporate expression for an impossibly ambitious task, giving his quiet stance an absurd sense of purpose. There is no shortage of ambition, only a landscape unwilling to follow the business plan.

An American painter based in Germany, McKee works primarily in oil on canvas, using humour, exaggeration, and theatrical imagery to explore power, status, and social behaviour. His strange figures and absurd scenarios invite viewers to consider the systems we live within, the roles we perform, and the discomforts we learn to ignore.
His work has been exhibited internationally at Space K Museum in Seoul, the Moscow Biennale, and the National Arts Club in New York, and featured in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the Financial Times, and The Upset, published by Die Gestalten Verlag. He has been artist-in-residence at The Fountainhead Residency in Miami, Florida and the Arctic Hideaway in Norway.
After many years in Berlin, McKee now lives and works in a small village in the German countryside, where distance from city life offers space to observe its rituals, contradictions, and absurdities.
