My recent trip to Japan this autumn revealed the vibrant colors of the maple trees and reminded me that Tsukimi is a Japanese vision of the full moon and its associated festivals. It celebrates not only the moon's beauty but also the symbolism of the rabbit making mochi on the moon, and, according to the Meiji-era author and translator Natsume Soseki, an elegant declaration of love. This artwork is an invitation to deep contemplation and shared experience.… I wanted to blend the delicacy of Asian art with a whimsical expressionism to capture a poetic and mysterious moment.
« Through my work, I wonder about the mystery of artistic creation and the destiny of the living. »
Catherine Hoang is a painter and sculptor based in France whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in Japan. Her works are marked by human pathological anatomy, the sublime, the trivial, and the ephemeral nature of the human condition. Through her art, Hoang explores themes related to survival and life "in a constantly evolving universe." Her artistic approach is figurative or translates an allusive abstraction.
