This painting took shape during a chance encounter. Leaving my studio, I had this barely sketched painting, and I was holding it upside down. I met a young man in the street who told me it looked like a Kandinsky. Then, leaning closer to the painting,… he asked me, "Why did you paint a closed eye?" I had never thought of painting that, but indeed, upside down, you could clearly see a closed eye. I went home and looked closely at the painting, which I had initially intended to be an abstract work. At that moment, I decided to paint an open eye, and that's how the painting took shape! Sometimes chance works in mysterious ways!
