About this artwork
This 17th century crucifix in my wife's collection is mounted on a board in place of the missing cross. Strands of glass beads are festooned around him. This piece was carved by an unknown artist in Guatemala four hundred years ago with the deepest veneration which I have tried to convey.

« The four attributes of an artist: talent, taste, perseverance, and generosity. Each is innate but also trainable. As each attribute is subjected to training it is refined and broadened. »
Chaim Bezalel has always been interested in different cultures. As a child, he would collect hand carved objects by anonymous artists from around the globe. This led to a passion for art, manifesting in the fields of photography and painting. History and historical content, including cultural illusions, is behind much of his work. His unique artworks are created by combining traditional materials, such as gouache and oils, with unconventional techniques. He believes art is a necessity, not a luxury.
