About this artwork
Completed in charcoal, pastel, and conte crayon on dura-lar film, the work has a quality of translucence which suggests thoughts, impressions, and emotions close to the surface. Composite is worked on both sides of the dura-lar sheet, which gives a "ghost image" impression to some areas of the drawing.
Composite is not matted or framed.

« What stories and emotional complexities are hidden in the human face? What past histories, fears, and hopes are buried in a quick glance or in the depths of the eyes? »
Charity Henderson is an experienced painter and draftsman from the United States. Henderson creates figurative portraits executed on translucent materials such as mylar, denril, and dura-lar. She often works by applying charcoal, graphite, or colored pencil on one side of the canvas and applying oil paint on the other. When the face is fully painted, she scrapes away and blurs sections of the portrait, partially revealing the drawn face on the other side of the sheet.
