About this artwork
This work is inspired by Jocelyne Saucier's award-winning novel, *Il pleuvait des oiseaux* (And the Birds Rained Down). The Polson twins inhabit the heart of the protagonist, Boychuck, a painter exiled in the forest. His work is discovered after his death. I painted this fictional work based on the novelist's descriptions: "The lines to follow in the thick paint that outlined the faces, the mouths, the cheeks, and where a gleam of pink light filtered… through, the eyes, and, what made the characters instantly recognizable, those intertwined golden filaments, their hair."
Christine Viens, practicing law before dedicating herself entirely to art, mainly uses oil. Inspired by the Baroque and Romantic eras, she harmoniously manipulates bright colors, asymmetries and curves to evoke emotion and movement. Her works explore the expressive depth of human and animal bodies, revealing our vulnerability and resistance.
