About this artwork
I experienced this scene in Berlin at around 4 a.m. Sunrise behind the Philharmonie. The rays dissolve their outlines. A group of skaters drifts along the empty highways like boats on the sea. They are still enjoying the silence and freedom, where in an hour endless processions of vehicles will be noisy and surging. The group of people is striving towards the promise of this new day, as countless individuals will soon do in their metal cars.
The… painting: egg tempera and oil paints on semi-oil ground, applied in several layers and sanded down, which allows the worn asphalt surface of the street space to be sensually recreated (testimony to this everyday mass striving).
