About this artwork
With this picture, the twelfth, I end the series with the question:
Is he? Has he reached his goal? Is there a goal on the path to individuation?
This person stands for himself, grounded, attentive, open and benevolent. Behind himself, firmly established, order and permanence. He stands firm - does the building behind him also? Doesn't it seem to be sinking in on itself? He looks at us. Do we see ourselves in him? Is it the path that shaped him?… Here, in our environment, the path can appear like this. But what is it like elsewhere? The picture poses a cascade of questions. Individuation - is it the path of open questions?
The building in the picture is in Berlin Mitte. The person in the foreground, however, does not exist physically. It springs from my imagination, an answer to my questions (a projection?). It becomes reality as an image.
Linen on wood, semi-oil ground, egg tempera and oil paints (the technique of the Renaissance) proven material of guaranteed quality.
