About this artwork
This intimate work unfolds like a fragmented landscape, suspended between erosion and emergence. Layers of ink, pigments, and paint spread across the Asian bamboo paper, forming organic structures reminiscent of sediments, scars, or unstable geological surfaces.
Despite its intimate size, the work develops a strong physical presence through the tension between the pigment saturation and the spaces left blank. The raw texture of the bamboo paper… reinforces the organic fragility of the surface and underscores the interplay between control and chance.
The intense red appears both visceral and atmospheric, simultaneously evoking vitality, rupture, a screaming nature, and a memory desiring to survive.
This unique piece explores marked, sometimes disfigured, territories, including the territory scarred by the earthquake, Ayiti. I visited it as a child with my Amerindian mother, a place that reaffirmed my connection to nature and the world.
