About this artwork
"Medusa Head", represents beauty, art, powerful symbol.
She started her existence as a lovely maiden with flowing locks of hair and a singing voice that rivaled the Sirens. Poseidon saw Medusa and wanted her.
In Greek myths: most famous and infamous symbol of Medusa is the well-known snake hair. She was turned into this monster by Athena because Medusa had sexual intercourse with Poseidon in one of her temples.
Another famous aspect (not really… a symbol) is her gaze which if people looked in her eyes would instantly petrify them and turn them in a stone statue. She knew what she would do if people saw her face, and she knew she had to hide.
The most significant thing that the myth of Medusa teaches us is that the beauty of the face and the body are not a guarantee of happiness in life. Medusa's beauty became the occasion for her humiliation and finally her death. No one knows her anymore as a beauty.
Personally, I always felt sorry for Medusa and felt like she was misunderstood.
« Happiness is more or less a change in me, something in my freedom.... »
