About this artwork
The collage depicting the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute is a fascinating work of art that transports viewers to a world full of color and emotion. This iconic building shines in one of Venice's most famous spots, on the banks of the Grand Canal, and it is precisely this splendor that is captured in the collage.
Looking at the left half of the picture, we encounter a sky and water framed by darkness. This darkness seems to envelop the domes… and facades of the basilica, while the Salute, with its majestic appearance, leads in perspective to the light that shines in the right edge of the picture. The deliberate simplification and alienation of the motif creates the impression of dreaming of the city itself, where reality and fantasy merge into one.
It is an image that inspires dreams and brings the soul of the lagoon city to life.
Conny Gabora completed his art studies at the Kolbermoor Academy as a master student of Professor Markus Lüpertz. He is a passionate painter and draftsman. He works with a figurative-abstract aesthetic, creating flowing acrylic surfaces and incorporating drawings into them. His works reflect a bold expression of utopia and rebellion against oppressive social realities and illustrate his desire to foreground a 'Pling, pling, superding world.' With a profound view of humanity and society, Gabora holds up a mirror to us, evoking raw, provocative emotions and thoughts.
