About this artwork
Vigil, an exploration of consciousness, observation, and the tension between seeing and being seen.
In Vigilia, I explored the constant presence of the gaze and that which remains awake even in silence. The piece arises from the union of a hand and an eye, two symbols deeply linked to the human experience: action and perception.
The hand emerges from the darkness, holding a single eye, suspended in an ambiguous space. I was interested in creating… an image that oscillated between protection and control, between care and surveillance. The viewer may wonder whether the hand is safeguarding the gaze or attempting to seize it.
The pink, violet, and magenta tones evoke living matter, the organic and vulnerable. The glossy surface and the drips preserve the trace of the process, as if the work continued to transform beyond its final form.
