About this artwork
This work explores the experience of displacement and the search for belonging, reflecting my experience as an expatriate and the ongoing process of integration into a foreign place that becomes an essential part of my identity. The chapel depicted in the piece is a photograph I took during my stay in Dubrovnik, manually transferred to the canvas. The abstract forms surrounding the chapel allude to a vast inner universe where nostalgia, rootedness,…
and transformation coexist, while the contrast between the photograph and the foggy background highlights the duality between the concrete and the emotional, the spiritual and the earthly, suggesting the emotional reconstruction necessary for reconciliation between the individual and their new environment.
