About this artwork
This work explores displacement and the search for belonging from a poetic and visual perspective. An old building, captured in a manually transferred photograph, is transformed with vibrant colors, symbolizing a refuge that reflects identity and emotions of the integration process. Situated in an abstract space, the dialogue between architectural solidity and the intangible nature of emotions unfolds. The abstract forms surrounding the structure… allude to an inner universe where nostalgia, belonging, and transformation converge. The contrast between the materiality of the building and the red-toned background integrates the emotional and the physical, the spiritual and the earthly. The piece addresses themes such as displacement, memory, and identity, proposing a reflection on how we reinterpret our surroundings to integrate them into our inner selves, suggesting that belonging is ultimately an emotional act.
Consuelo Palma, a Chilean artist based in Croatia, is a self-taught artist with a background in graphic design and a self-taught painter. She primarily works with mixed-media painting and ceramic sculpture. She has explored a variety of media, including printmaking, metalwork, and collage, among others. Her eclectic style combines minimalist elements with touches of surrealism, using automation as a creative method to capture the essence of the inner world, resulting in unique pieces. Her works explore emotional depth, the search for belonging, and the longing for harmony.
