Orpheus is probably the most famous musician and singer of the ancient world. Orpheus overcomes the boundary between life and death through his singing and playing the lyre, which he is also considered to have invented. His own life comes close to that of an adventurer: as a young man he joined the Argonauts and sailed with them to Colchis to steal the Golden Fleece. After his return he got to know and love Eurydice. In the course of this, Orpheus… sets out into the realm of the dead in order to bring his dead 'Eurydice' back to the realm of the living out of love.
Accompaniment of the rehearsal recordings at the Staatstheater Kassel, choreography: Johannes Wieland; Musical direction: Patrick Ringborg; Performers: State Orchestra and State Ballet Kassel, music: Hans Werner Henze
