About this artwork
Marks the first series of paintings in which Roukens started exploring the boundaries of his obsessive perfectionism. It started with gradually changing the appearance of a fixed color combination in a triangle pattern. By painting layer upon layer and intuitively adjusting the pattern, each added layer gave rise to the intensity of the colours and created new levels of depth. on purpose, even though Roukens knew that he had to change the whole painting again. These moments of decisions and doubts in the painting process are fundamental to create that interaction between order and chaos. Adding those under layers is similar to the glazing technique from the Renaissance, however Roukens uses it to confront himself instead of complementing the colours.
