About this artwork
South Korea is a country where the media is not playing its role properly. Since mainstream media does not represent the interests of the people at all, public media confidence remains at the bottom of the OECD list. The media are turning a blind eye to the assessment and judgment of important issues on the pretext of political factionalism or mechanical neutrality.
I have been tearing up newspapers published by Korean nepotism media and using them… as materials for my work. Recently, I started to make works that used paper strings as materials, but this time, I mixed newspaper and paper strings to produce works. I know that no matter how hard the media companies that spread lies try to distort the truth, peoples cherish the truth and are angry in silence.
We are singing the truth in silence.

Daesun Choi is an artist based in South Korea whose paintings have been widely exhibited nationally, as well as in Japan, the United States, and Germany. His most recent abstract and semi-abstract compositions are made using newspapers, hanji, or paper strings. For Choi, the newspaper represents the secular world in which we live. However, he does not believe that this medium gives an accurate interpretation because of the inherent limitations of text language, whose meaning can be easily distorted.
