About this artwork
This mixed media artwork explores intimacy and memory through personal objects transformed into symbolic elements. A real tie and sewn buttons anchor the composition, suggesting structure, routine, and traces of a lived presence. These elements are contrasted by hand-painted flowers, which introduce vulnerability, growth, and emotional resonance.
The framed floral area functions as a visual threshold, an inner space where memory becomes tenderness… and structure gives way to storytelling. The frame does not merely contain the flowers; it separates and protects them, echoing the way emotions are often held, preserved, or hidden within familiar forms.
Layered fabrics, textures, and painterly marks create a dialogue between solidity and fragility, masculinity and sensitivity, permanence and change. Rather than narrating a specific story, the work invites the viewer to sense how objects, gestures, and materials carry personal histories, quietly, intimately, and over time.
Daiana Bruj is a self-taught visual artist who works primarily with mixed media, drawing on over 20 years of independent artistic evolution. She builds richly textured surfaces through layering acrylics, collage, denim, wire mesh, hand-stitching, and reflective materials, infusing her contemporary works with Art Brut and industrial influences. Her signature assemblages, marked by grids and structural lines, explore the interplay of order and chaos, identity, and resilience. Bruj’s art resonates with echoes of memory and transformation, inviting viewers into contemplative spaces where vulnerability and deeply silent questions linger just beneath the surface.
