About this artwork
In this work, I wanted to merge abstraction and figuration to represent a vibrant life cycle. The depth of the oil paint combined with the brilliance of the lacquer creates an electric contrast, evoking the invisible energy that surrounds us. Dan Liefooghe, a painter with an atypical background, combines his experience as a violin maker and as an assistant to Marcel Berlanger with a jazz musical practice. He uses oils and old violin varnishes on canvas, exploring abstract figurative as well as realism; his works incorporate food themes or printed circuit patterns and are accompanied by titles with messages. Through an approach inspired by phenomenology, he seeks to convey the subtlety of perception and the poetry of the appearance of phenomena, arousing curiosity and contemplation in the viewer.
