About this artwork
This painting was created in collaboration with Gulnara Heinz. I painted the background, she painted the zebra. From the beginning, we didn't want to hide our different painting styles, but rather deliberately let them stand side by side.
The vibrant colors and spontaneous brushstrokes contrast with the meticulous rendering of the animal. This creates a contrast that makes the zebra stand out even more. Its direct gaze was particularly important… to me – it immediately establishes a connection with the viewer.
It is precisely this collaboration that makes the work so special for me. Two different approaches meet in one image and complement each other without losing their own distinctive style.

I'm Daniel, a painter from Leipzig. I've been painting under the name danh1z since 2019 – first as an apprentice glass and porcelain painter in Kaufbeuren, then on my own.
What interests me is the tension between control and letting go. I work in layers – building up, reworking, revealing. Sometimes a painting is finished in hours, sometimes I work on it for weeks. Palette knives, brushes, flowing paint – whatever the painting needs.
The subjects change. Animals, cars, people. I paint what moves me, what challenges me, what I don't yet understand.
My works are held in private and institutional collections in Europe, the USA, and South Korea. In 2026, I was a jury member at the Geoje International Art Festival in South Korea—an experience that profoundly influenced me.

"Thank you very much, Mr.Heinz. You have captured this moment perfectly. I have a herd of cattle with a bull and I am thrilled by these animals."
