About this artwork
In this landscape invaded by snow, we discover a trio of dancers frozen in graceful and acrobatic postures. A quartet, passing animals this time, seems to be surprised by this incongruous presence of barely dressed humans emerging from the snow like statues, vestiges of our civilization like the petrified remains of our ancestors in Pompeii. .
Does this painting thus evoke the fragile equilibrium in which our species finds itself as the winter of… our era arrives?
A refined canvas where the artist has replaced the marriage of colors that are dear to her with the essential duality of black and white, yin and yang, for a new search for balance in beauty.

« I play with perceptions to develop a lush pictorial language, with animality at the centrepiece of a cabinet of curiosities. This is to express ancestral feelings of the psyche: fear, anger and laughter. »
Victoria Stagni is an experienced France-based artist who was born in Buenos-Aires to an Argentinian mother and Paraguayan father. Influenced by great Latin-American authors such as Gabriela Garcia Marquez and Alejo Carpentier, she harnesses inspiration from magical realism to compose works in which humans are placed amidst fantastical natural tableaus. The world she depicts is beastly, sometimes friendly, sometimes menacing, and always a strong representation of the crucial links between people, animals and nature. Stagni has exhibited her work in France and Cuba, in the United States and Australia.
