About this artwork
Cat's Cradle was assembled from a papier-mâché pineapple, a rabbit with missing front paws, a sardine can, a carved face of a bearded man, and the head of a wooden cobra. It also includes a candlestick and two wooden bowls. The piece came together when I placed the back of the face against the belly of the rabbit and liked what I saw. I added two “hands of Buddha” to the rabbit, painted the man's face, the hands, and one of the bowls, and joined…
all these components as they are now.
I was especially pleased to discover the unplanned drool that can be seen on the man's face. I believe it is some of the Gorilla wood glue that I used to attach the face to the rabbit. On impulse, I placed two comma- shaped pieces of wood over the man's eyes and painted them purple. Then I put cholla skeleton slices where his eyes used to be and painted them black and white. Next, I placed some tiny eyeballs into the centers of the cholla slices.
