About this artwork
The original drawing was created with pen on paper in a matter of seconds. There was no preconceived idea. The drawing was driven by subconscious movement. Once completed the drawing reminded me of a classical sculpture, perhaps with some limbs broken off by the ravages of time. It had to be Aphrodite!
The coloration phase of the work was completed by creating several copies of the drawing and then coloring the form and background using colored… pencils. The transfer of the original design to canvas was accomplished with a computer projector, projecting the original drawing onto the blank canvas whereby it could be redrawn at the proper size to fit the dimensions of the canvas. The line itself was varied in width over its various curvatures in order to express both femininity and life.
This work was painted on gallery wrapped canvas with the sides painted a complementary color. Gallery wrapped canvas requires no further framing and can be hung as is.
